In its line of Youth empowerment mainly in reproductive health,
today July on 15, 2022 GURD-Rwanda met its stakeholders at GS St Nicolas
NYAMASHEKE A for a half day training about:
a) Reproductive health and right education in school’s teenagers;
b) Menstrual health;
c) Values that will guide them during holidays
Since the beginning of the academic year 2021-2022, GURD-Rwanda
has been paying lunch assistance for 11 students at GS St Nicolas Nyamasheke A,
these students were trained in Reproductive health and right education in
school’s teenagers to form a club as a key Ambassadors in preventing teen
mothers and disruptive behavior in Schools.
Testimony from UWINEZA Sophia (Senior 1 A) explained that in rural
areas teenagers meet different problems caused mainly by poverty coupled with
ignorance. She added that knowledge gained from these trainings helped her to
strive for self-reliance and dignity, she is now helping other students and
unschooled teenagers on reproductive health. She later emphasized that to
prevent teen mother requires to educate young ladies about reproductive health
as teenagers lack sexual education and to be aware of preventing unwanted
pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). They may also indulge in
unprotected sexual activity due to peer pressure
TUYISHIME Fidele the EXECUTIVE Director of GURD-Rwanda mentioned
that GURD-Rwanda will continue to:
• Provide reproductive health and right education in school’s
teenagers;
• Support youth development programs among adolescents to talk
openly about their feelings and experiences related to sexuality;
• Educate them on topics such as HIV, sexually transmitted
diseases (STDs), and contraception;
• Bring families and communities together to address topics on
sexuality without any socio-cultural resistance;
• Talk about the health risks of unprotected sex and teenage
pregnancies;
